Renowned singer, composer Tawfiq Nimri passes away

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - Renowned singer and composer Tawfiq Nimri passed away on Sunday evening at the age of 93. Nimri’s son Salah said his father died at Al Istiklal Hospital in Amman after falling into a coma and that he will be buried in his hometown of Al Huson in the northern governorate of Irbid.

Head of the Jordan Artists Association Hussein Khatib paid tribute to Nimri, saying he was one of the most important artists of Jordan, whose contributions to reviving Jordanian folklore will always be remembered by future generations.

Born in 1918, Nimri composed more than 750 folkloric songs. He also composed for famous Arab singers including Wadea Safi, Najat Al Saghirah, Samira Tawfiq, and Nasri Sham El Din.
