U.S. Embassy hosts monthly Poetry Reading Program

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS- The U.S. Embassy in Amman in collaboration with Bifrost Café will host a monthly poetry evening entitled “Say it in Verse” for poetry lovers in which participants can read and recite their favorite poems in Arabic and English.
This program will be held every third Tuesday of every month starting this October. The first evening will be held on Oct. 18 at Bifrost Café, Jabal Amman, 1st circle, Rainbow Street from 7 to 9 p.m.
The event is one of the Arabic Book Program’s many literary outreach activities to inform the youth about literature and give them the opportunity to express themselves creatively.
The Arabic Book Program has conducted a creative writing workshop this summer for Jordanian youth in cooperation with the University of Iowa and AMIDEAST. It also sent Jordanian poet Hind Shofani to the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program. The Arab Book Program also organized a special musical event in honor of Gibran Khalil Gibran in cooperation with RUM music group.
The Arabic Book Program at the U.S. Embassy was established in 1986. The program translates into Arabic books by American writers in the fields of history, economics, human rights, democracy, management sciences, politics, humanities, arts, and the environment. The program has produced over two hundred titles to date.
