U.S. Embassy Hosts the American Documentary Film Showcase and Film Experts

AMMONNEWS – The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce the screening of a series of American documentary films, accompanied by visiting film experts Blake Ashman-Kipervaser and John Farbrother Sept. 23 – 30. Ashman-Kipervaser and Farbrother will also conduct a series of film workshops in Amman and Aqaba.

The film “The Lottery” will be screened on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m., followed by a discussion at Al Hussein Cultural Center in Ras El Ein. The film, “Louder than a Bomb”, will be screened at the Princess Basma Center Film Making Club in Aqaba on Monday, Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. “Niger 66: A Peace Corps Diary” will be screened at Al Hussein Cultural Center in Ras El Ein on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. and a screening of “Deep Down” will be shown at Al Hussein Cultural Center in Ras El Ein on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. A repeat of the film “Louder than a Bomb” will be screened in Amman on Thursday, Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. at Al Hussein Cultural Center in Ras El Ein. All films will be subtitled in Arabic and all screenings are free.

In Amman, the film experts will conduct workshops with students at the Royal Film Commission and the Princess Basma Center on Filmmaking and Poetry, and at the Princess Basma Center Film Making Club and a visit and discussion to the Red Sea Institute for Cinematic Arts (RSICA) in Aqaba.

Blake Ashman-Kipervaser is a filmmaker and producer based in New York City. He has produced three feature documentaries (“The Lottery”; “Time for Change” and “Being in the World”). “The Lottery” was shortlisted for an Oscar nomination.

John Farbrother is a film and TV editor. He received several awards for his work, including the “Audience Award for Best Documentary Feature” at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, and the “Audience Choice Award and the Special Jury Prize” at the Chicago International Film Festival.
