King receives honorary doctorate from Al Quds University

Ammon News - AMMONNEWS - His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday received an honorary doctorate in humanitarian sciences from Al Quds University, in recognition of his stances towards Jerusalem.
The university also hailed the King for defending the city's holy places, preserving its Arab identity, supporting Arab Jerusalemites and their steadfastness.
King Abdullah thanked the university for granting him the honorary doctorate, affirming that it is a manifest of the Hashemites' historical role towards Jerusalem.
He also paid tribute to the university's humanitarian message and its keenness to support Palestinians and equip them with knowledge to face (Israeli) occupation.
King Abdullah pledged to continue renovation and maintenance works in Al Aqsa compound and meet demands of Palestinians in Jerusalem.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who attended a special ceremony on this occasion, expressed the Palestinian people's appreciation for King Abdullah's support for their cause.
Abbas noted His Majesty's stances and services for Jerusalem in general and Al Aqsa Mosque in particular.
Al Quds University, whose cornerstone was laid by the late King Hussein in 1966, is the only Palestinian and Arab university in Jerusalem. It has 13 faculties with about 12,000 students.
