Rubicon Group Holding (RGH), an Amman-based developer of animated content, has signed an agreement with Paramount Recreation and CBS Consumer Products to build a $1 billion Star Trek-themed resort in Jordan.

The 184-acre Star-Trek themed entertainment resort, The Red Sea Astrarium (TRSA). is due to be built by 2014 in the Red Sea port city of Aqaba in southern Jordan.

Rubicon Chief Executive Officer Randa Ayoubi said in a statement that the master plan will be drawn up by the Seattle-based architecture and design company Callison.

TRSA will generate employment for more than 500 high-skilled workers in the local community, with RGH facilitating the training for these key jobs.

Rubicon employs over 300 employees in four locations in Amman, Los Angeles, Manila and Dubai.

In June 2007, California-based film studio Paramount Pictures had signed a long-term licencing agreement with Dubai-based developer Ruwaad Holdings, which allowed the latter to use its movie titles and characters for its theme parks.
