AMMONNEWS - Violent clashes erupted between students on Sunday afternoon at Mu'tah University in Karak governorate, south of Jordan.
Gun shots were heard outside the nothern university gate, but eye witnesses said that the source of the gun shots were not the students, but may have come from security cadres.
Rioters vandalized vehicles and shops near the university gates, causing major material damage to owners.
Rioters threw rocks at each other, causing a number of injuries. The number of injured students have not yet been verified.
University sources said that the clashes started between students belonging to a two tribes, one from madaba and the other from Karak.
Gendarmerie forces arrived at the scene and dispersed the rioters.
Repeated clashes have erupted in Mu'tah University in the past year, particularly at the northern university gate.
The University administration has distanced itself from responsibility, under the pretext that clashes occur outside campus.
