Ammon News - Irbid– The first Internet Reactor Laboratory in Jordan was inaugurated at the Jordan University for Science and Technology JUST in the northern city of Irbid.
The reactor laboratory will link the university's Nuclear Engineering Department with a U.S research reactor at a North Carolina university.
The project was set up in cooperation with the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission, U.S Department of State, and the International Atomic Energy Agency and aims to provide Jordanian nuclear students with a deeper insight into experimental physics of nuclear reactors.
The new laboratory will enable JUST nuclear engineering students to use North Carolina State University PULSTAR Research Reactor and observe the reactor's behavior under certain conditions via a virtual control panel.
The students made two trials in which they directly contacted PULSTAR's operators. This is the first time a research US nuclear reactor is being used for educational purposes outside the United States.
The laboratory is an important step in the Kingdom's peaceful nuclear program and in the capacity-building of Jordan's nuclear staff.
